Signs of Candida Overgrowth in the Body

Candida Albicans. Yeast. Tiny fungi that occur naturally in the body, but can wreak havoc when they grow uncontrolled and unchecked by our body’s natural defenses.

In our practice at Revitalive, we see a lot of people with yeast problems. Women may be familiar with vaginal yeast infections, but did you know that yeast can infect other areas too? In fact, you can even have a systemic overgrowth of yeast – yeast growing in all sorts of places inside the body where it was never meant to grow!

If you feel sick all over, are tired all the time, plagued by allergies and mystery rashes that don’t respond to treatment…if your doctor has tested you and tested you but can’t figure out what’s going on…you might have a systemic Candida overgrowth.

Here are some telltale clues that may point to a yeast infection:

1. Have you taken repeated rounds of antibiotics in your life? General or broad spectrum antibiotics knock out bad bacteria, but they also knock out the good stuff too, the guardians of your digestive health. If too many are knocked out at once, it gives Candida the chance to grow and spread without the usual safeguards in place.

2. Have you ever taken birth control pills? Hormonal contraception can throw off the body’s systems. Many women who have taken birth control pills find themselves with recurrent yeast problems.

3. Do you suffer from recurrent skin rashes, joint aches and pains, premenstrual problems and abdominal discomfort, but your doctor can’t figure out the cause? Many of these problems are a sign that your immune system is stressed. Candida produces toxins, and when they circulate through the body the immune system responds. But it might not be able to clear out the Candida overgrowth…and symptoms such as these result.

Knowing your body and ruling out other illnesses is important. You’re the best judge of what feels right or wrong. If you think Candida may be a problem, there is a lot you can do to manage it.
